Another day and no real change in terms of what we know about the virus itself, just a real change about what we know about how the Chinese health authorities have begun to deal with it, and as you would likely have predicted, they are dealing with it with a pretty heavy hand.
According to the news this morning, in a bid to try to prevent the spread of this virus more widely within the country, China has now imposed the same travel restrictions that were imposed on the residents of Wuhan on the residents of at least four more cities which basically forbids those tens of millions of residents from travlling out of those cities.
At the same time, of course, no one from outside will be allowed to enter those cities.
The really sad part of this is that just based on the really limited access we have for information from within affected areas, it looks very much as if Chinese health authorities have been overwhelmed with dealing with this mess: There just doesn’t seem to be a coordinated effort to put standard precautions and preventive and even therapeutic measures in place, stuff that is essential if you really want to stop the spread of this virus.
How come they never learn?
