According to very interesting (to me, anyway) research published online in the Annals of the American Thoracic Society, of 314 patients in New York who were admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 pneumonia, “high genomic load” at time of admission to hospital of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (that is, they were carrying lots of coronavirus compared to someone admitted who didn’t have as much virus in them) had “worse outcomes” from their disease.
And for severe COVID-19, you pretty well know what worse outcomes mean.
It’s certainly not guaranteed, but lots of experts now believe that wearing your mask consistently lowers the amount of virus you might get pick up even if someone around you is shedding virus, and the less virus you pick up, the theory goes, the better your outcome might be.
Wear your damn mask.
For your sake.
And everyone else’s.
