More support for delaying 2nd vaccine doses for COVID protection

An expert panel at the World Health Organization has approved delaying the time between doses of Pfizer and BioNTech’s coronavirus vaccine with the declaration that the interval between doses “may be extended up to 42 days (6 weeks)”.

Which is something we can all fervently hope ends up being the right decision because the more people we can get a first shot into (by delaying the 2nd dose to those who have already received a first dose), the more people who will get at least some protection against infection, and that will – hopefully – bring us that much closer to the Holy Grail of herd immunity somewhat more quickly than if we didn’t delay the 2nd dose in those who already have partial protection from one shot.

Time alone will tell, however, how that works so as we say in this biz “Stay tuned”.
