How it will all end

According to a modelling analysis just published in the journal, Science, the likeliest end to this pandemic is with the SARS-CoV-2 joining the ranks of four older mild cold-causing coronaviruses that currently circulate in humans.

In other words, like a relative who has come to stay, SARS-CoV-2 will never leave us.

Rather, it will turn into another cold-causing coronavirus which will retain the ability to infect us over and over again, albeit with mild cold-like symptoms in most of us.

That, I suppose, is good news.

the bad news is that this won’t happen until enough people are either immunized or protected through a natural infection, and that ain’t going to happen for a long time, I’m afraid.
