Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the (US) National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and perhaps the world’s most well-known expert on viral diseases, has just told MSNBC that a new vaccine – the single-shot vaccine from Johnson & Johnson – is just “two weeks away from being approved” by US health authorities.
Health Canada surely has the same data exactly as the US has.
Canadian citizens are desperate for good vaccine news, specially since Pfizer has cut the shipment of vaccine to Canada for the next several weeks.
Yet so far, not a word from Health Canada (well, a spokesman did say they are studying the data) about its deliberations about the J&J vaccine (or the one from AstraZeneca, that was approved for use in other countries several weeks ago).
Surely someone in Ottawa should have the brains – and other body parts – to tell this hesitant group of experts that since they are supposed to be serving the public, the public has the right to know what’s happening – and in the case of a pandemic situation like this, even while it’s happening.
