A long way yet to go in the treatment of very ill COVID-19 patients

The good news, according to a study just published online in the Annals of Internal Medicine, the death rate in patients admitted to an ICU with COVID-19 has been dramatically cut over the last few months by well over 50 %.

The bad news is that the death rate from COVID-19 in ICU patients is sill exceedingly high at – these researchers estimated average – over 19 %.

We’ve clearly learned a lot about managing these very ill patients.

But we clearly still have a very very long way to go.
