Why we need to vaccinate as many as possible -2

This week, Public Health England (PHE) submitted a pre-print of a real-world study that shows how well both the Pfizer and Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines are working in the UK.

What’s most interesting, however, is how well these vaccines seem to work in the elderly.

Thus, although overall protection against symptomatic COVID, 4 weeks after the first dose, ranged between 57 and 61% for one dose of Pfizer and between 60 and 73% for the AstraZeneca vaccine, the really exciting news is that in those over the age of 80, a single dose of either vaccine was found to be more than 80% effective at preventing hospitalisation 3 to 4 weeks after the first shot, and some evidence that one shot of the Pfizer vaccine led to to an 83% reduction in deaths from COVID-19.

Get yer shot as soon as one is available.
