Maybe explains in part why high blood pressure seems to be so lethal with COVID-19

According to a study just published in the BMJ, high blood pressure (HBP) is controlled in only 2 out of 5 UK patients with the condition (no reason, of course, to believe that it’s any different here in Canada).

And most interestingly, this holds true even for those who are under HBP treatment.

Since HBP is the leading preventable risk factor for death from cardiovascular disease, that means that an amazing number of people either don’t know or don’t care that they can pretty easily reduce their risk of dying if only they – and their health care givers – were to pay more attention to this easily trackable problem.

Not only that, but HBP is one of the 3 or 4 main risk factors for poor outcome from COVID-19, so again, many people might be able to lower their risk of suffering with a severe case of COVID-19 with more attention to this easily-measured condition.
