The next Viagra may be all in your head

You gotta love this.

Futura Medical, a British medicines manufacturer, has asked European regulators to approve a new over-the-counter treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED), a non-medicated gel that was originally used as a placebo in a trial for ED drugs, but which worked just as well as the drug that was being tested.

And the US is also getting in line as the FDA in that country just gave the OK for a trial of this gel to start for the many American men who could use a new therapy for ED.

And it should also be noted that investors are really optimistic about this new therapy which some has said might be the biggest advance in ED treatment since the advent of Viagra-type drugs in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

So what’s in this new miracle straightener, you may very well wonder?

Seems you really can’t find out since Futura Medical has declined to identify the components of the gel.

But hey, it doesn’t really take much insight to see that if a placebo works as well as a drug for ED, then the bottom line must be that a lot of the positive effect the gel is having on most of these men is not because of its direct effect on the organ being tested but rather the positive effect that its having on the control room of that organ, namely, the brain.

Whatever.

If it works and makes some men (and their partners) happy and is safe, why worry about anything else.

Power to Futura Medical.
